Product Details

This Kesari Kandora is a hand-set mirror and beadwork tie-belt that ties around the waist over a lehenga or chaniya choli, alternating dense clusters of silver metal beads with hexagon mirrors set among amber and bronze glass stones — a warmer, more antique take on Kutch–Saurashtra mirror work, finished with a cowrie-shell (kaudi) fringe.

  • Craft: Hand-set glass mirrors, amber-toned stones and metal beadwork on a fabric strip, in the Kutch–Saurashtra tradition
  • Motifs: Alternating panels of clustered silver beads and hexagon-cut mirrors, with amber, topaz and bronze glass stones filling the wedges between them
  • Finish: A cowrie shell drop below each panel; braided black tie-cords with gold-toned bead caps and black tassels at both ends for a fully adjustable fit
  • Fit: One size — ties around the waist, adjustable to fit most
  • Colours: Black base with amber and bronze stones and silver beadwork
  • Occasion: Navratri, Garba, weddings and festive functions

Handmade by artisans — small variations in stone and mirror placement are part of the craft. Quality checked before dispatch. Free pan-India delivery.

Product FAQs

Have questions? Check out our FAQs or contact support for assistance.

How is the Kesari Kandora belt worn?

It ties around the waist over a lehenga, chaniya choli or plain skirt. Bring the braided cords around to the back or front and knot them, letting the tassels hang. Most people wear it low on the hip so the cowrie shell fringe swings while dancing.

Is it one size, and will it fit me?

Yes, it is one size. The embellished panel is a fixed length and the braided tie-cords at both ends adjust freely, so it fits most waist sizes comfortably.

What does this belt go with?

The palette here is warm rather than rainbow - amber and bronze stones with silver beadwork on black. It suits maroon, rust, mustard, bottle green and other deep or earthy chaniya colours, and works well for weddings and receptions as well as Garba nights.

How do I care for the stones, mirrors and metal beads?

Dry clean only - never machine wash, soak or wring it. Keep perfume and water off the mirrors, glass stones and metal beads so they do not dull, store the belt flat with tissue between the embellished rows so nothing scratches, and keep the shell drops and tassels untangled.

Will my piece look exactly like the photo?

Very close, but not identical. Each belt is hand-set, so stone tones, bead spacing and the shape of each cowrie shell vary slightly from piece to piece. The amber and bronze stones in particular catch light differently depending on how they are set. Those small differences are a mark of genuine handwork, not a defect.
