Product Details

This Satrangi Kandora is a hand-embroidered mirror-work tie-belt that ties around the waist over a lehenga or chaniya choli, packing upright rectangular mirrors edge to edge in an unbroken run of rainbow thread with a cowrie-shell (kaudi) drop beneath each one — a Kutch–Saurashtra craft piece built for Navratri and Garba nights.

  • Craft: Hand embroidery with mirror (abhla) work in the Kutch–Saurashtra tradition
  • Motifs: A dense row of upright rectangular mirrors, each bound in satin thread and cycling through red, orange, blue, yellow, rani pink, green and silver with no gaps between them
  • Finish: A cowrie shell drop below every mirror; braided black tie-cords with gold-toned bead caps and black tassels at both ends for a fully adjustable fit
  • Fit: One size — ties around the waist, adjustable to fit most
  • Colours: Black base with multicolour hand embroidery
  • Occasion: Navratri, Garba, weddings and festive functions

Handmade by artisans — small variations in stitch and mirror placement are part of the craft. Quality checked before dispatch. Free pan-India delivery.

Product FAQs

Have questions? Check out our FAQs or contact support for assistance.

How is the Satrangi Kandora belt worn?

It ties around the waist over a lehenga, chaniya choli or plain skirt. Bring the braided cords around to the back or front and knot them, letting the tassels hang. Most people wear it low on the hip so the cowrie shell fringe swings while dancing.

Is it one size, and will it fit me?

Yes, it is one size. The embroidered panel is a fixed length and the braided tie-cords at both ends adjust freely, so it fits most waist sizes comfortably.

What colours does it come in?

This piece has a black base with multicolour hand embroidery - the mirrors are bound in red, orange, blue, yellow, rani pink, green and silver thread repeating along the full length, so it pairs with almost any chaniya colour.

How do I care for the mirror work and cowrie shells?

Dry clean only - never machine wash, soak or wring it. Keep perfume and water off the mirrors, store it flat with tissue between the embroidered layers so the mirrors do not scratch, and keep the shell drops and tassels untangled. Avoid long spells in direct sunlight so the thread colours stay bright.

Will my piece look exactly like the photo?

Very close, but not identical. Each belt is embroidered by hand, so mirror placement, the exact order of the thread colours and the shape of each cowrie shell vary slightly from piece to piece. Those small differences are a mark of genuine handwork, not a defect.
